At Avenue Deli, we take very good care of our kitchen. It’s a main priority of ours to keep the kitchen in clean, perfect working condition because our customers rely on us to for proper kitchen hygiene. That’s why today we’re excited to tell you about something we just purchased – a batch feed garbage disposal!
For those who are unfamiliar with a garbage disposal, it is a motorized device installed under the sink which grinds food to really small pieces before sending it off to the sewage system. Why would someone want something like this? For us, we bought a garbage disposal because we wanted to find a way to dispose of all the food scrap our deli creates. We go through a lot of produce, meats, and bread, and when not all of that gets used, it goes to the dump but not before hanging around our facility for a little bit. So by using a garbage disposal, we can minimize waste lying around by feeding it into the sink. Again, we want to make sure our kitchen is maintained properly throughout the day. It’s completely safe and in fact, environmentally friendly because wastewater gets re-purposed into renewable energy.
We were really impressed with batch feed garbage disposals because they have a cover that acts as the power switch. It will not turn on unless you insert the stopper. We liked that the cover provided extra separation between the parts under the sink and the surface, for hygienic reasons. And with the batch feed, we’re able to minimize the number of accidental items being chopped up. Again, it doesn’t start unless you manually start it, so it allows our employees to pay closer attention when using a batch feed.
There are a lot of good options to choose from when buying a batch feed garbage disposal. We ended up picking the Waste King 8000TC for a number of reasons. First of all, it has an EZ Mount which is Waste King’s way of saying “easy installation”. Installing a garbage disposal is relatively easy, the hardest parts being the mount and the electrical. But as long as you have all the tools and instructions, it shouldn’t be too difficult. Besides, the EZ Mount is much less expensive than the 3-bolt model. The exact same model is the Waste King 9980TC. By purchasing the 8000TC we ended up saving $100. The second reason is the 1.0 horsepower motor. That’s the most powerful motor that you can get in a garbage disposal. Since we use ours for commercial purposes, we needed something strong enough to endure all the food scraps it ill grind. Next, we liked that it came with a 10-year warranty. Waste King seems to have good warranty service, so we are counting on them if anything goes wrong.
We’re excited to try out our new disposer, and once we’ve used it for some time, we’ll be sure to let you know what we think of it! In the meantime, we hope to see you at Avenue Deli!
